Maprak
/ Summary
The relationship between a business and its IT company is built on communication and trust. When Maprak considered its arrangement, it believed that its best interests weren’t being looked after and therefore a third-party opinion was sought.
/ The Issue
MYOB is used by Maprak and would often crash several times a day, causing frustration for all of the staff. Backups were inconsistent and even the simplest of computer tasks became cumbersome due to a poor execution of Mac and PC integration. LeetGeek was called in to review the environment and come up with the best strategy to enable Maprak to work efficiently and effectively.
It was discovered that Maprak had a small business server that had been removed and replaced with an aged G4 Mac server. Mac workstations had been setup for administration staff and the MYOB file was being modified on both Mac and PC computers, which is not a supported setup. It was very clear that this configuration was not appropriate for Maprak. As LeetGeek is well versed in both Mac and PC, an unbiased review was performed and a strategy to resolve the issues was developed.
/ The Solution
The small business server was slightly upgraded and reinstated. All data from the G4 Mac server was moved to the PC server and removed from the network. The existing Mac computers had Windows installed exclusively so the hardware could be reused. Email which had been externally hosted was moved to the Exchange server, which allowed calendar and contact sharing between staff.
Soon after implementing these changes, the MYOB issues disappeared and efficiency was restored. LeetGeek now implements a monthly maintenance schedule to keep the network running at its peak and, as a result, Maprak has experienced several years of trouble-free IT service.
